Coordinated by Rave Wireless (which already provides GPS tracking to UNC’s cell phone users through UNC Mobile), Smart911 underwent extensive testing at UNC-Chapel Hill to ensure reliability and privacy and has been reviewed by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officers and the National Emergency Number Association. Smart911 protects your information and ensures it gets only to the people who need it and only when they need it. Your profile is only visible when you call 9-1-1 and operators can not search the system to look for specific people.
